Facial Skin Care Tips for Men

Are you looking for the best facial skin care tips for men? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Lets discuss all the important points related to facial skin care for men!

Using the right products

Before starting a facial skin care routine, it’s important to make sure we’re using the right products. There are many types of products available in the market for men but many tend to be all-in-one. Think of the 3-in-1, shampoo, conditioners and body washes. The idea with these is that it’s as efficient as possible, which we honestly love – saving time is always a good thing.

However, many of these products use ingredients that can be harsh on the body. You will be clean but they strip your skin and hair of moisture, they can cause your skin to dry out, start overproducing oils or even create sensitivities that were never there before.

This also goes for products like bar soaps, they are built to strip your skin back. It might be easy to grab for the bar of soap and wash your face in the shower but trust us, the feeling of well cared for skin is much nicer!

So, in each of the categories below we’ve added the type of products you want to look for and tips on how to use them for the most effective results.

Exfoliating your face, what do you need to know?

Exfoliating your face is all about removing dead cells and cleaning it up so the moisturiser can do it’s job well.

The idea isn’t to completely strip the skin of it’s healthy oils but to get rid of the debris that can clog your pores. Exfoliation is a process that removes dead skin cells from the upper layer of the skin, revealing the healthy skin underneath and improve results of your skin care routine.

Follow these tips for exfoliating:

  • Avoid harsh exfoliators if you have sensitive skin. Exfoliators can strip away layers of dead cells, leaving your skin feeling tight and irritated. Instead, opt for a scrub that gently buffs away dulling debris.
  • Avoid products that contain alcohol or abrasives, since they can dry out your skin even more.
  • Don’t scrub too hard when you wash your face, skin is incredibly delicate and exfoliating too hard can cause the skin to become broken, painful and blemished.
  • Always apply a moisturiser to your face after cleansing. When we exfoliate and cleanse we clear away some of the moisture that skin really needs, remember to replenish it with a moisturiser.
  • Don’t forget to cleanse your neck and chest area, too. These areas tend to accumulate dirt more easily than the rest of your body.
  • Use exfoliators a maximum of once to twice a week.

Tip: If you have sensitive skin, consider using a mask (masque) instead of exfoliating your face. Masks are typically less harsh than scrubs, and they provide a deeper cleaning.

Cleansing your face, what do you need to know?

It is very important to cleanse your face before applying a moisturising cream or lotion. Use a cleanser to gently remove excess oil, makeup and surface impurities while assisting in maintaining the skins natural moisture balance.

Cleansers are essential for keeping your skin healthy so much so we recommend doing it twice a day morning and evening. If you notice your skin acting up after beginning the routine, it maybe time to change the cleanser you use. Skin changes throughout the year, so you may need to change your cleanser during the year to fit with your skin needs.

It can also be useful to use a toner after cleansing to work in synergy with the products you use to assist in moisturising and hydrating the skin. For oily skin types try using a toner containing salicylic acid, which helps to exfoliate dead cells and unclog pores.

Ingredients you want in a cleansing product: You want to look for something like a gel cleanser which is gentle and refreshing on the skin, giving you that squeaky clean feel.

Use products with salicylic acid if you have acne or oily skin and products with hyaluronic acid and ceramides for dry skin.

Moisturising your face, what do you need to know?

After cleansing your face, apply moisturiser. Moisturising your face helps to keep your skin hydrated and gives it a natural glow.

Lack of attention to facial care can lead to dryness and premature skin ageing, especially during winter months. Moisturising your face helps prevent these problems from occurring.

A couple of tips for using moisturisers:

  • when applying moisturiser you want apply a light layer of moisturiser after cleansing. Some moisturisers like Environs AVST range gives you the dose required with two pumps. If you do not have your moisturiser in a pump bottle, start with a small amount like a 5p coin size and gently rub it in until you can’t feel it on the skin anymore.
  • Make sure to wash your hands prior to starting your skin care routine. Washing your face with dirty hands can transfer bacteria into your pores.
  • Remember to add some SPF protection, just let the moisturiser settle into your skin first. Find out mote about UVA/UVB protection for your skin here.

Ingredients you want in a moisturiser: Apply a rich moisturiser. Choose a cream or oil that contains vitamin A, C and E, Peptides, hyaluronic acid. These ingredients work together to hydrate your skin while protecting against free radicals and UV rays.

The world of skincare can look a little daunting on the outside, but the basic principles are pretty simple. Exfoliate to clear away the debris, cleanse to clear oils and then moisturise to rehydrate and nourish with the vitamins it losses throughout the day. If you follow these tips then you’ll find that your skin is much happier and it doesn’t even take much time.
