Limited Edition – Pomegranate & Ginger Facials For September
It’s the penultimate blog post for September which means October is about to show its face again. When you think about autumn, what scents do you usually conjure up? Pumpkin spice, vanilla, frankincense and citrus notes? We’re with you on those, but what about Pomegranate and Ginger?
You probably wouldn’t think of them off the top of your head, but trust us, they are autumnal scents through and through – they also feature in the new Sothys limited edition skincare set, which we are using for our latest seasonal facials. Not only do they smell amazing, but they have plenty of benefits for skin, especially moving into autumn.
Let’s take a look at what these two main ingredients can do for your skin;
Pomegranate has recently come back as a trend in skincare and health; you’ll find it deseeded in packets at the local supermarkets or even sprinkled over a salad at a restaurant. The taste of the seeds can be a bit divisive with its bitter aftertaste, but when it’s added to skincare or hair products, it comes across as similar to citrus.
Ginger is the more common of the two main ingredients. We eat it in biscuits, main meals to add flavour and heat and sometimes in tea. Ginger is a fantastic digestive aid, also commonly helping with nausea. Ginger has a strong flavour and scent, which is why it’s used in some of our cosy beverages at Christmas, mulled wine, anyone?
What are the benefits of ginger and pomegranate for the skin?
Pomegranate and ginger extract health benefits
- Pomegranate and ginger have long been touted as excellent sources of antioxidants. Our bodies are subject to oxidative stress and free radicals. These can cause negative impacts on the body, from the production of damaging cells to more skincare focused issues such as the breakdown of collagen. The antioxidants in pomegranates and ginger counter the negative impacts of oxidative stress and free radicals and keep your skin healthier for longer. More info on the benefits of Pomegranates here.
- Pomegranate extract has multiple protective qualities for the body and skin. One of the most impactful is on the skin. Pomegranate can give your skin a protective boost from the damaging rays of the sun. There is also ongoing research into pomegranate oils uses against skin cancer. More info here.
- Pomegranate and ginger are great for skin softening; they help prevent the drying of skin which helps to keep the skin firm but also soft to the touch. As we mentioned above, they protect collagen cells from damage and boost the collagen’s longevity in your skin.
- Ginger is an anti-inflammatory. When talking about skincare, inflammation happens when we overuse products. You might see skin inflammation if you are using lots of products with exfoliants or are scrubbing away the top layer of skins and oils too often. Ginger as an ingredient can soothe the skin and take down inflammation or puffiness in the face.
Why get a facial in September/October?
There are a whole host of benefits that come from these two ingredients. The Sothys products blend these in with shea butter, which is a fantastic ingredient for skin softening, soothing, and anti-ageing. Using these ingredients in your skincare routines are especially important as we hit the autumn months.
Remember:
- Even in the depths of winter, you still need to add layers of protection to your skin from the sun.
- When the temperature cools, there is less humidity in the air which means that your skin dries out faster. You might notice chapping of the lips or flare-ups of skin disorders such as Psoriasis and Rosacea. Moisturising keeps that all-important moisture trapped in the skin for longer.
